The Homestead Municipal Building was built in 1904 and was the original site of the borough's police and fire stations. The jail's most famous resident was Mother Jones, the labor activist described a century ago as the most dangerous woman in America. She came to the Monongahela Valley to rally support for the Steel Strike of 1919, and was arrested in Homestead for "street speaking without a permit." After the municipality offices moved, the building sat vacant for two decades. It is now the home of a craft brewery.
