St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church: Mary Grotto (color)
Established in 1894, this former Roman Catholic church in Pittsburgh's Troy Hill neighborhood is the site of the first Croatian Catholic parish in America. The church was built between 1900-1904, and the architect was Frederick C. Sauer. Expansion of a nearby highway threatened the church site, and it was razed in 2013. (color version)
